Backstory

With the "First Contact"/"Rebirth" series behind me, in 2001 I tried something a little less of a galaxy-spanning space opera and more intimate. More "Blade Runner" instead of "Star Wars." The result is a novella entitled "Waking Prometheus," which I think is the best title in my inventory.

The story follows Brent Gallowes, who loses his wife and child to a random murder sometime early in the next century. To escape his grief he becomes an intrastellar freighter captain, sort of like a truck driver of the stars. Through his work and a steady diet of booze he manages to keep the pain of losing his family at bay.

Then Brent and his crew discover a mysterious artifact while on a delivery. An artifact with the potential to revolutionize humanity--that's where the title comes from. But once Brent discovers the secret of the artifact he has to protect it from those who would steal it and use it for evil purposes. And in doing so recovers some of the humanity he lost when his family was taken from him.

Please enjoy "Waking Prometheus..."
